About GCVC

About Us...
As we begin our thirteenth year, we recognize that the sport of volleyball is growing in interest with overwhelming numbers.

It is our goal to continue the company’s philosophy of developing the total female athlete in a competitive environment.  We strive to accomplish this goal by helping our players strike their individual balance between family, academics, extra-curricular activities and sports.

We provide the top players in the area, who make that commitment, the opportunity to be seen by college recruits and guide and assist them through that process.

Many of our past players have secured Division 1 through Division 3 college volleyball scholarships.  At the same time, we recognize that this is not the goal for all players.  Our club is structured to help all of the athletes achieve their personal best.

Glass City prides itself on being a pure club without ties to a high school or college.  Glass City is designed to be a partnership between the student athlete, their parents, and our coaches who are committed to the pursuit of excellence.

We offer programs for players ages 5 through 18, and offer a range of teams to accommodate a variety of expense, time and travel

Commitment of Director...
The Director of Glass City Volleyball Co., Dana Johnson Hooper, has a true passion for the sport.  A life-long resident of the Toledo area, she began playing volleyball at the age of 13, when the Ohio High School Athletic Association began its first State Championship at Start High School.  This being her 36th year in the sport, she has dedicated herself in every facet of the game, and her credentials are unlike any others.

She formerly played collegiate volleyball at the University of Toledo, where she acquired two Bachelors degrees in Education and Business.  She then began officiating high school volleyball.  After eight years of officiating, she began coaching the varsity team at Cardinal Stritch High School for the next three years, always working full time.  After the birth of her two children, Ashley, now 21, and Bryan 19, she moved to the varsity team at Saint Ursula Academy, where she turned around an 0-18 record into a City Championship.  She is the only coach in the Toledo City League to have coached back to back City Championships at 2 different schools.  She has been selected City League Coach of the Year and District Coach of the Year.  After three years of back to back City Championships at St. Ursula, she left to coach her daughter in the Catholic Youth Organization.  She coached her daughter at St. Joseph in Sylvania and served on the Athletic Board.  When her daughter began 7th grade at Arbor Hills Junior High, she moved there and coached for 2 years.

Dana began Glass City to give players from all schools an opportunity to play club volleyball, showing no affiliation or preference with any high school and has maintained that standard throughout its ten years.

She is currently practice manager of a large dental practice in addition to coaching and being club director.  Dana is not only passionate about her children and volleyball, she is a community advocate and has served on the boards of The Sight Center, The Anne Grady Center, The Ability Center of Greater Toledo & United Health Services Rib Off Event.

Coaches...
The coaching staff at Glass City is dedicated to the development of their players not only in volleyball, but in life.  They are hard working professionals from all walks of life, who bring to their teams a passion and love of the sport.

All coaches, before being selected, have been observed and screened for their coaching style. All coaches have undergone a background check.  Some of the coaches are former players who have “grown up” in the Club.  The staff is by far “THE BEST” in terms of their experience, knowledge and commitment to their players.  Their combined years in the sport spans over two centuries.

You can read about our coaches in the Teams/Coaches section.
