Starfish Guppies Finish Strong at Columbus
Aaahh...shiny and expensive...leave it to
the Starfish Guppies to use all of their mettle to medal in
an expensive metal category. At $1500.00 an ounce platinum
is pricey, but watching the Guppies use every ounce of
energy to win first place in the platinum bracket was
priceless. Healthy players gave extra effort to help the
teammates that were playing injured and the whole team
re-energized with a piece of birthday cookie cake
mid-tourney. Coach
Megan even delivered a straightforward attitude-adjustment
talk to the parents, which had the same effect as the cookie
cake but without the sugar.
Coach, players, parents...great season! What a finish!

16-1 finishes Second in Gold at Columbus Regional's
The 16-1 team finished second in the Gold Division at the
Columbus Regional Tournament.
16-1 Wins Gold at Premier Invitational in Maumee
The 16-1 team began Saturday day winning two matches and
losing 1 match to finish second in Pool play. After
repooling, the 16-1 team won their first match of the new
pool. On Sunday, the 16-1 team won 1 match and lost 1
match to finish second in their pool and earning a place in
the Gold tournament. The team had to play the number 1
team from pool play in their first match of the Gold
Tournament. The 16-1 team lost the first set, and then
won the second and third sets to take the semi-final match
and advance. The 16-1 team came from behind in set 1
of the final match to win a thriller 26-24. The team
lost the second set. The team regrouped and won the third
set and the Gold. Congratulations to the team and
coaches.

13-1 Wins Gold at Nothin' But Net in Cincinnati
The 13-1 team began the day winning three matches to finish
first in Pool play. The team advanced to the Gold
tournament. The 13-1 team won the first match in 2
games. In the semi-final match, the 13-1 team won the
match in the third and final set to advance to the finals.
The 13-1 team had to again work hard and gather up
additional energy to win in the third and final set of the
match. Congratulations to the team and coaches.
12-1 Wins Gold At
Premier
It took the team a little while to wake up but once
they did they did not look back.
In our first match we struggled with serves and were
a little out of sink.
However it did not take long for us to get our
rhythm. Every
opponent we faced went down in two sets.
Our pool play was so dominate a few teams we faced
were kept to single digits.
The gold medal round did not look too different from
pool play. We
faced an SJVC team that appeared to be a little competition
but in the end they could not keep their game up.
We beat them in two to win it all!!!!

12-1
2nd Time in Tiffin … 2nd in Gold Again
It started out like many of 12-1’s tournaments this
season. We faced
many teams and took them out in 2 sets.
We faced
Black Swamp first and won the first set 25-9.
They tried to rally back in game 2 but we pulled off
the win 25-20.
MSVB and North Shore were the next two teams that we
defeated in two straight sets.
We reached the gold medal round pretty confident in
our play and confident in our serves.
We beat Premier quickly only to face a tougher
Black
Swamp team.
We were able to keep our momentum going and defeat
them. We saved
it all for the final round.
We knew we had to face a very dominate Oiler Attack
team. We had
been watching them knock out opponents all day.
We had to shake the case of the jitters and dig
ourselves out of a 14-2 hole.
We dug out and rallied back only to loose the first
set 25-19. We
fought hard but lost the second set 25-14.
Second again…T-shirts again…sense of pride in doing
our best again.
Great Job Girls You Made All of Us Proud!!!!!
16-1 Wins Gold at The Total Athlete in Mentor
The 16-1 team began the the day winning two matches
and losing 1 match to finish second in Pool play. The
team had to play the number 1 (and OVR higher ranked) team
from pool 2 to start the Gold tournament. After
loosing a close first game, the team refocused and won the
second game. Playing scrappy in the third game, the
16-1 team knocked off Academy Volleyball Club. In the
Gold Finals, the 16-1 team lost the first game to Maverick
Volleyball Club. Again with great effort, the 16-1
team won the second game of the match to force a third and
decisive game. The team refocused and dug up a little
extra energy and won the third game and the match to take
the Gold. Congratulations to the 16-1 team and the
coaches.

STARFISH GUPPIES AT PREMIER ...
The Starfish Guppies tied
for third in gold at Premier on 4/17. Not much else to say,
except - bring back the Starfish Guppy cheer, girls!
STARFISH GUPPIES AT FRANKLIN...
The Starfish Guppies were determined to
pack as much volleyball and drama
into one day as possible by winning with scores like 29-27
and taking 2
teams to a third set in pool play. Had this tight-knit team
cooked up some
devious plan to play in rollercoaster mode just to test
their parents and
their unflappable coach? By tournament time they had Coach
Megan sweating so much she put her hair in a ponytail and
got tough. She even (gasp!) told the girls to "...dive
because that's what kneepads are for." Oblivious to
standings and unfazed by the close games, the Guppies just
kept swimming
along, perfecting their pre-game floor-pounding cheer and
winning the first
match of the tournament in 3 sets (of course!). They finally
lost and
finished up tied for third in gold. During Monday night
practice Coach Megan
enforced diving and guaranteed knee pad usage with an
extended game of touch two, which the Gups of course
thoroughly enjoyed.
Keep it up Starfish Guppies!
I
Told You So… 12-1 Won Gold at UT
12-1
moved through pool play winning every match.
It seemed effortless to defeat each opponent.
They played fluidly and in sync defeating most
opponents in two sets and keeping a few to single digits.
Every member of the team did their part to bring the
team to gold medal round.
It was
an exciting gold round with some unbelievable serving.
We took the first set quickly 25-9.
Then the other team rallied back and won game 2 in a
nail bitter 25-23.
In the end we proved to be too much for the TVC team.
We won 15-8 in game 3 and took the Gold!!!!!!

12-1 2nd in Gold in Tiffin
The 12-1
team showed up in Tiffin ready to do battle.
All through pool play they showed off their skills.
They worked together and handily defeated each
competitor that faced them on the other side of the net with
very few matches going to three.
They even had a few strong wins against an Outer
Limits Team, keeping them to single digits with their
beastie serving streaks.
In the end it came down to GlassCity vs.
Black Swamp for the gold.
Although they looked great and fought hard they
couldn’t take away the win.
They did however take away a t-shirt and a sense of
pride that they showed and did their best.
Great Job Girls!!!!!!

8-1 “Wins One”
“Ace Ace
in your Face” was echoing in UT’s Health Ed Gym this
Saturday. This
phrase was chanted several times throughout 8-1’s 2nd
tournament. The
spunky 8 team hung tough all day getting many serves and
passes over the net.
At one point the crowd erupted in applause and cheers
when 8-1 won a set against our own 10-2 team (25-22).
Although they came 7th out of 7 that small victory
showed what big winners they really are. Super Job Girls!!!

8-1 “Small But Mighty”
They may
have lost every match at the Lucas
County
Rec Center
on February 27th but they never lost their spunky
personalities and hope for a win.
They were in constant movement on and off the court.
This spirited team moved their feet and hit the ball
over the net more than a few times.
We had a few times when we had “two hits and over”
(hey that’s almost “three and over”).
A few of the seasoned 8 year old players got some
hard earned points with their awesome serves.
Words of wisdom and instruction flew off the bench
from the coaches.
But perhaps the most profound piece of wisdom came
from our smallest player…When asked why she didn’t call the
ball she replied “I couldn’t Coach…I got gum in my mouth” :)
8-1 was a fun team to watch.
They are the future “Super Stars” of Glass City.

15 Early Birds finish second in Gold
The 15 EB team played their final tournament on Sunday,
March 7th at UT. The girls finished first in their
pool and won their first match in tournament play. In the
gold bracket final match, the girls came up against a very
tough Black Swamp
team. But we dug up some powerful hits, made some
timely blocks, and had some awesome sets resulting in nice
hits of our own. We won the first set, lost the second
set 27-25, and played hard, but ultimately lost the third
set. The girls had a fantastic season, as they were
able to play for gold in every tournament. We want to
thank our fabulous coaches -- Coach Dana and Coach Joe.

15 Early Birds Finish third in Gold
The fifteen early birds played at UT on Sunday,
Feb. 28th. Pool play finished up with the girls winning all
their matches. Though they let the second set of the third
match slip away, they redeemed themselves winning set three
with a score of 15-0, (great serving Delaney).
Unfortunately they couldn't keep that momentum going into
tournament, losing a good battle in the gold bracket. As
always, the girls showed great hustle, determination, and
team unity. They are as gracious in victory as they are in
defeat. A classy bunch of girls.

17 Early wins Wild Weekend tournaments
The 17 Early team had a wild weekend of tournaments February
19-21. On Friday night, the 17 Early team played in a
Sorority Volleyball Tournament at the University of Toledo.
Playing various positions, the girls had fun and won the
tournament. They received Pizza as their prize for
winning the charity event.
On Saturday, the 17 Early team played at the Lucas
County Recreation Center in Maumee. The team played
well not loosing a set while working their way to winning
Gold.
On Sunday, the 17 Early team played short handed due
to the death of a very popular Eastwood parent, but that
could not stop this team. They swept the entire
weekend moving the team to an 8th place ranking in the OVR.
The team has won three out of four tournaments on the year.
Congratulations Coach Tony and the 17 Early team.

14 Early gets 2nd in Gold
It
was a short commute but a long road to success for the 14
Early Team at Premier.
Each match was fought point for point.
Serves were looking good but even with the great
serves we battled to the 3rd set many times only to end up
with a loss. In one
of the 3rd sets, against a strong Buckeye team, we even went
19-17…unfortunately 14 E did not get he win that time. Our
girls did not give up.
At the end of the day we faced the SJVC Pink Panther
team for the gold.
They were the only team to beat us in 2 all day.
They proved to be a tough competitor again in the
gold round…defeating us in 2 again.
Although it was a
stress filled day for ALL involved, we are a group that will
not be shaken.
The girls are ready for their next chance to dominate the
court.

Reaches for Gold in 1st Tournament
Although they did not get 1st
in gold they made an impressive debut.
The girls received 5th in gold in Dayton …not too bad
for a group of girls that barely knew each other a few weeks
previous to arriving at their 1st match.
It was a tough start.
The girls seemed to be finding their place and rhythm
on the court early on, in day one of pool play.
After a few matches the girls began to gel on the
court and they really came alive, winning the majority of
their sets the rest of the day.
They were a fun team
to watch. They
had great passes, serves, sets, and spikes.
On day 2 of play they faced a dominate
Kentucky
team and held their own.
They did not come away with the win but they did not
make it easy for Kentucky to defeat them.
After pool play the team continued their amazing
display of teamwork.
Dayton was great opportunity for the girls to
gel on and off the court.
I have a strong feeling that these girls will be no
strangers to gold this year.
They will be a team to watch.

16-1 Wins Silver at President's Cup
The 16-1 team won the Silver tournament at the President's
Cup in Columbus on February 13 & 14th. The team went
3-2 in pool play, loosing in a close match to MAVA (the
defending champion for the prior 2 years) and Legacy who
finished first and second in the Gold tournament. In
tournament play, the 16-1 team won all three matches to
capture first in Silver. Congratulations to Coach
Steve and the 16-1 girls for their outstanding play.
13-2 Columbus Tourney
The 13-2 team won first place in the gold
bracket for team bonding. Lime
green shoelaces, sweet air-brushed shirts paid for with
waitressing money, a
customized ace cheer, and freeze tag in the lobby helped
pull this team
together. They got to know each other well enough to get to
the bronze
bracket, and we expect big things in the future as their
team spirit grows.
Kudos to the parents for maintaining a straight face as they
loudly cheered
on their Starfish Guppies!
15 Early Birds Finish
Second in Gold
After a cold and blustery Friday night, the 15 Early Birds
played at Maumee on Saturday, Feb.
6th. The 15 EBs have played in the gold finals in
every tournament so far this year, and this day would be no
different. Though the girls fell just a bit short of
their goal to win gold, the girls should be proud of their
accomplishments and second place finish and....."birthday
girl" Tierney McClure did a great job at middle to help
celebrate her 14th birthday!

17 Early Birds Win
Gold in Columbus
On January 31st the 17 EB team won Gold
at the Buckeye Volleyball Center.
After spending Saturday night eating, swimming, and playing
games -- (though some had to cheat to win) the girls were
ready for volleyball on Sunday morning. They breezed
through pool play without losing a single game. As the
day progressed, comments from other teams and officials were
made all admiring the girls' team spirit, unity, and style
of play. Tournament play proved to be a tough
challenge as both matches went to three games. They
had to battle back and make some crucial plays at key times
to pull out a well deserved victory. Congratulations Tony
and the 17 Early Birds!

15 Early Birds Win Gold in
Columbus
On January 30th the 15 EB team traveled to
Columbus
to play at the
Buckeye
Volleyball
Center
and they won GOLD! After finishing second in gold the
week before, the team was determined to win it all.
The girls stormed their way through pool play winning all of
their matches. They were more than ready for
tournament play as superb passing, beautiful sets (to all
five attackers), thunderous hits, and of course timely
blocking lifted them to victory. Congratulations
coaches and players!
