Coaches Corner

Brittany, an eighth grade student was asked to write about a teacher or coach that most influenced her life.  This is her story.

Coach Applehanz
 By:  Brittany Kobylak
Do you admire someone?  I do.  His name is Coach Applehanz.  He was my eighth grade volleyball coach.  Everyone called him either Applesauce or just Coach.
Apple sauce taught me so much.  Even though we might not have won many games, we worked very hard.  I learned new things at practice each day.  Coach taught me how to do things I never thought I could do.  He taught me how to back set, and how to pace nicer.  He also taught me how to serve better.   He also made me feel comfortable at practice and at our matches.
At one of our games at Bowling Green, I was playing middle front, and all of a sudden I felt this stinging paint in my neck.  I asked Naomi if she saw anything there.  She looked, but only said it was just really red.  Luckily that game was just about over.  As soon as I heard the whistle to end the second game, I ran over to the bench, grabbed my water, and put it up to my neck where it was stinging.  Coach asked if I needed to sit out for the beginning of the second game, or if I could start.  I told him that I'd tough it out and play.  He was very concerned and cared so much about me and my other teammates.  He was a great teacher too.
I hope he continues to coach well, and to teach everything he taught me.  He is a very admirable person and coach.
